Who we are

Hey, I’m Sophie 👋

I set up Do Good Research in 2021 - and it’s just me.

It’s a great thing that more people are doing user research in teams.

But this increase in demand has led to common challenges around research ethics, rigour and safety. This impacts the people taking part, people doing the research and ultimately the products and services we design.

Do Good Research aims to keep people safe in the design of services, by promoting good practice user research.

We help you set up the Research Ops processes, skills and team structures for good research to happen. We hold space for having difficult conversations and sharing learnings - so that more researchers are supported, organisations are prepared and our research practice improves as an industry.

How does this look?

I work on research projects directly through Do Good Research Ltd. Recent projects include the UK Health Security Agency, Homeless Link, Lloyd’s Banking Group and PlayStation - conducting research with users and helping teams think in a new way about their service.

I partner with teams on their Research Operations and deliver training on common research topics. My expertise is in health, researching sensitive topics, ethics and inclusive research, data protection, interviewing, content strategy and service design.

We are bringing people together who care about ethics and standards in research. If you are interested in this too, please get in touch ❤️

About me

I care about using design to make a positive impact in the world.

Since 2014, I’ve been working in design agencies, government and now freelance; carrying out research to help make services more human.

My career in user experience began at Nomensa and I’ve since worked at Department of Health and Social Care (NHSX) as their first user researcher; followed by the design studio Snook.

Causes I care about are health, women, children and young people, addiction, trauma, dating and relationships, creativity and music. When I’m not working on Do Good Research; I enjoy singing, yoga and holistic therapy.

I’m now based in Liverpool. If you are also based in the North West - please reach out as I’d love to connect with others who work in design here too!

Organisations I’ve worked with
