Researching Sensitive Topics
Live training workshop (2.5 hours)
*Trigger warning: You may find some of the topics discussed in this session upsetting or difficult to talk about. We’ll be focusing on research approach and learnings, not any detailed research findings
Are you delivering user research on sensitive topics? or supporting a team who is?
This session is for you
How can this training help you?
This is a practical and interactive session designed to protect researchers, participants and the team, when researching something sensitive. By this, we mean a researching a topic that is considered emotional, difficult to talk about, or with vulnerable groups.
It’s important we prepare and hold space for having these conversations now that more of us are doing user research for the first time in these settings. Even as experienced user researchers, we can often encounter new contexts, user groups and challenges throughout our career. We can all benefit from sharing learnings and discussing approaches to keep people safe in our research.
This training workshop will give you practical tools and approaches based on my experience leading research on sensitive topics and supporting teams across government, charity and private sector.
